I'm going to Emerson College Honors Program in Boston, Massachusetts, majoring in Writing, Literature, and Publishing [yep that's one major], with a Trustees Scholarship of half-tuition.

Holler.

You all better visit me. I don't want to be lonely.

HA! I'm AIM profile worthy, you bitches, as decided by the great Rachel.

Rachel: i think barney was a pedophile
Frances: ::outraged:: barney is the world's friend!
Rachel: barney is purple.
Rachel: i'm just stating facts
Rachel: i mean....
Frances: oh i see how it is
Frances: color discrimination
Frances: if barney was WHITE there'd be no problem
Frances: but NO! he's a minority.
Rachel: hahahaha
Frances: a minority of... two... cause the only other purple person i can think of is tinkywinky

Hey all...

I'm off to ruin my life on the SAT. For the second time.

I hate the College Board right now.

Plus I have the image in my head of Shinichi scribbling away on his exam papers cheerfully, grinning happily in the knowledge that he will ace every single test and also finish early each time... except on music. Music class makes him confused.

[music |Bright Eyes - "A Perfect Sonnet"]

Came home from the Dominican Republic yesterday. If you like being pampered for a decent price, I highly suggest the place. If you, like me, prefer less mind-numbing endeavors, pick a national park. It was okay. Should've been more than okay, I suppose, but I can settle for okay.

If Red Thread will still exist, I'll need help. Because RL makes my brain crash.

Dude, blogger is such a fucking ass.

Deus is coming along nicely. First part almost done, still to be tweaked. I am not as dedicated in terms of writing hours as the rest of you, I'm afraid, and that must soon be remedied.

[music |Goo Goo Dolls - "Iris"]

I'm home again. And no, that does not make me happy. Farewell, dream world.

Going to focus more on originals. But will finish Deus -- first part mostly done. Want to do a Shinichi fic but don't know quite yet how.

Bleagh.

"You're always the optimist. I hate you." [Jul. 23rd, 2003|01:06 pm]
[mood | excited]
[music |Queen - "Bohemian Rhapsody"]

Right. So I write a story about a septic tank cleaner that dies strangely and the incompetent detective that tries and fails to solve the case. Somehow it turned into a giant mock-fic in which everyone I know from workshop and every joke we've ever had somehow wormed its way into the fic.

Readers laughed so hard we got threatened that we'd be banned from the computer lab if we didn't shut up. And now it's a screenplay. To be performed today. This was decided last night, around nine pm. And everyone jumped on the bandwagon and wanted to perform it.

GOD I LOVE THIS PLACE.

The phrase B&W, while making everyone else go 'eh' makes me go 'bleeeeah'. I don't like it. I don't know why. It fits and all, in a strange and twisted way and of course theirloveissostrangeandtwisted, but still. Maybe it's a mental thing. But then again, we can't call it Seriously Fucked Up, which it also is, so in retrospect B&W is fine with me.

::reads Weekly World News:: "Man-Eating Lions Eat Vegetarian Monks?!" [Jul. 18th, 2003|09:32 pm]
[mood | nerdy]
[music |Weezer - "The Good Life"]

So yes. Today is a Friday and I am supposed to be having fun right now, but alas, I am unwilling to spend five bucks to see a breakdancing competition. I normally would, because I love breakdancing, but it's not cool when $25-American has to last eight days. Whatever, I'm having fun.

I wrote this serious as hell story, but since I'm taking it very seriously, I'm not going to take the risk of posting it here. Instead I'm going to post the new love of my life and current work in progress that is still unnamed. I don't consider "Septic Cleaner Mystery Parody" to be a title. It came from an exercise where we were assigned random verbs with random occupations. Luckily I did not get "fondling garbage man" though I did get "diving septic cleaner". And yes, I killed off my friend.

Ah, the wonders of free time. )

Well. That was pointless.

"How 'bout that Iowa nightlife?" "Yeah! Let's go cow-tipping!" [Jul. 16th, 2003|06:26 pm]
[mood | chipper]
[music |Goo Goo Dolls - "Slide"]

I saw my first bale of hay yesterday and my first giant barn -- the barn's actually a national treasure or something like that because it's so large and so old. Amazing huh; I got to sit and write for like two hours in this giant barn with horses and cats and fields of corn nearby and total silence. It may not sound like much to you, but to me it was mind-blowing.

They have cheap anime here, I discovered. I'm going to try to get "The Big O"... I love that series and hate it at the same time -- how dare they leave it unfinished like that?! Bastards.

Everything here closes at eight o'clock. I was so pissed to discover that at nine when I was bored and went out to find some small weirdo shops, only to find them closed. What the hell, what closes at eight? Iowa, that's what.

I also got this awesome Princess Bride & Harry Potter icon. ::points above:: I stole it from someone who stole it from someone else who stole it from someone else. I'll try to find out from where, but I adore it.

"Is this heaven?" "No, it's Iowa." [Jul. 14th, 2003|08:18 pm]
[mood | artistic]
[music |Savage Garden - "Crash and Burn"]

See that subject quote? I'm literally about twenty miles from where "Field of Dreams" was filmed. They have a freakin' Field of Dreams FESTIVAL here every year.

I'm in a two-week workshop with sixty-eight writers. I am LOVING THIS. I'm in the boondocks with a town of literally four blocks, but I don't care. Tons of work, many originals half-done, I will post and you WILL CRITIQUE DAMMIT, I DON'T CARE IF IT'S NOT FANFIC. It's like being back in school, but... not. It's weird when part of your introduction, with your name and state, is what kind of writing you like to do.

Congrats to Jaelle!

Thanks to Kaitou Magician on the comments for "Untitled". I'm sure the C/A ship will continue to gain momentum and get better, and I'm fairly sure it's not a bad thing. ^___^ And why not remember your fic? I liked it!

Am hyper and happy. This literary insanity will last me awhile.

For a warm-up exercise we had to write several lines and make them into a poem. Here's some of my nonsensical lines: "The bright lamp of sanity burned out." "The book threw the person into the bonfire."

And better yet, nobody lied and told me it was good.

completely confusing Ai fic [Jul. 12th, 2003|02:48 am]
[mood | creative]
[music |Bryan Adams - "Please Forgive Me"]

Right. So I agree that the Conan/Ai pairing is unlikely. And that I have seen very few fics that could convince me otherwise (Kaitou Magician being one of the few that can) as I have almost no patience for bad formatting, spelling, grammar, and characterization. I feel bad that I might be missing these brilliant Conan/Ai fics out there that I lost patience with because I was too lazy to just deal with spelling problems, but oh well. Maybe one day I'll find them and be happily surprised.

I tried writing Conan/Ai despite the instinct to forget the whole thing to spite some people. It didn't matter though, I failed horribly. Both Ai and Conan are uncooperative. I'll leave it to the people who can do it better than I can.

For [info]ladyorla, who complained about lack, and [info]hauntress, who agreed. Neither of them get what they had asked for:

Untitled. the failed attempt at Conan/Ai that resulted in a headache, a cry for late-night betas, and fic that is almost impossible to understand and is STILL Shinichi/Ran, goddammit. )

You both can flay me later.

random thoughts [Jul. 11th, 2003|12:47 am]
[mood | frustrated]
[music |3 Doors Down - "Love Me When I'm Gone"]

My liking of anime!Riku from DNAngel isn't very high. I finally got off my lazy ass and downloaded an ep, and [info]lazulisong's right, she's been jockified. It IS possible to be independent and strong-willed without being a jock.

Plus, has anyone seen those ads for the new "reality" series "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy"? If not, the commercial basically said that all straight men are total slobs who live in decrepit states, therefore the only way to clean them up is to get a bunch of loudly gay men to come in and clean them up, because all gay men are stylish and clean in comparison, and air the cleaning (complete with cries of "Dear GOD this mess will NOT do! ::snap fingers impatiently::") on television because DAMN that's quality entertainment. The title is the only vaguely interesting thing about the whole idea.

Plus, someone emailed me demanding why I don't write Conan/Ai and claiming that I was biased against the whole ship and afraid to look at alternate possibilities than the norm and wow, you're just a real bitch, thank you very much. The person then had the gall to suggest a Conan/Ai plotline for me to write, then said offhandedly, "well it doesn't matter, I could do it better anyway."

Uh, hello? What the hell? I never said I hated the ship, I just said it was unlikely. And I never said I wouldn't write Conan/Ai either. Who knows, maybe one day I will. But... ugh. Idiocy.

you're the center of my universe [Jul. 9th, 2003|10:50 pm]
[mood | giddy]
[music |Michelle Tumes - "Lovely"]

Ooh you're lovely, you're lovely
You're the center of my universe
A thousand times I look around me and I find
Ooh you're lovely, you're lovely
You're the center of my universe
In a million ways I cannot explain
You're lovely

I see a Shinichi ficlet coming on. Dammit. What is it with New Age and fic?

Been busy recently; lots of relatives visiting and summer projects to do. From Sunday the 13th until the 26th I'll be at a fiction workshop in Iowa, which for me can be translated to "boondocks". If I'm completely unresponsive during that time, even more than now, you'll know why.

So both Conan AND DNAngel have been gobbled up by the dubbers for regurgitation. I liked Funimation's dub of Yu Yu Hakusho, so I'm not completely terrified, but I'm worried about how they'll translate all of the little clues in cases that are based on Japanese culture and words. I wonder how they'll tweak the gay in DNAngel -- but that's not quite a real worry, the gay is so ingrained and I don't think either series will air on television anyway, though DNAngel has a better shot at it than Conan. But hey, we win out in the end: DVDs! Hopefully with Japanese language tracks and English subtitles! Yay!

I just wish they'd do the manga though. I like the Conan manga MUCH better than the anime, but right now I'll take what I can get.

blah. [Jul. 4th, 2003|12:34 am]
[mood | numb]

So yes. This is an update. Ta da.

I wrote a poem in about three minutes. It sucks terribly. Poetry is not my thing at all. I should be taken out back and shot the next time I attempt poetry. I posted it in my AIM profile, where I usually post song lyrics and random bits of nonsense.

My summer isn't going happily. Can't you tell?

==

I have no songs in my head
As modern music is quite dead
So here is a bad rhyme instead.
This summer's not working too well;
As you can probably already tell
I have a lot of boredom to quell.
So save me fast, help me please
I'm begging you, I'm on my knees
This poem was only a tease
To prove that if you don't help me...

I'll be quite upset.

The end.

==

Goddamn I'm a moron.

The Fictional Crushes List Part I [Jun. 30th, 2003|08:42 pm]
[mood | complacent]
[music |The Beatles - "Twist and Shout"]

I've been wanting to do this for awhile. Yes, it is the Fictional Crushes List Part I: Books! The basic idea of this is to list all the "crushes" aka favorite characters of the opposite (or same, whatever) sex you've had, past and present. The rules are simple: you can't have seen a picture or animation of them (no manga then for this part), and you have to say why. Simple as that.

onward with the book half of characters I have loved! )
Part II: Anime/Manga to follow.

I'm still blinking in disbelieving dismay. Lord almighty, what the hell have I just READ??

Bahh. A little Kaito ficlet's done. I'm not sure how much sense it makes, but there you are. Still debating whether to put it at ff.net or just here or take it down immediately and turn it into kindling.

Spoilers for a magic trick.
